goodliver) is Doppio’s alternate personality (in short; a "Protective Alt"). They are actually the same person and have lived together inside their own head. Doppio is used to hide Diavolo, the head of the most powerful mafia syndicate in Italy Passione, hidden in plain sight. harvestrpg they will be split into two different entities for the first time (not counting their death at the end of Part 5) and it will be horrible for them. They can't live without the other, not even Doppio with the "host body". The loss of Diavolo, even if they're side by side, will cause him to feel great loss and loneliness, like a part of him is missing.Within Harvest, because they are never meant to be split apart there will be some stipulations. High emotion will be shared between them. An example: Doppio is feeling rather happy over a flattering comment! Diavolo will feel about ¼ of that happiness in exchange. If Diavolo snorts a shit ton of cocaine, Doppio’s going to feel ¼ of the adrenaline boosting side-effects. This will only be from extremely overwhelming emotions.
They’ll also still, to some extent, have access to the other’s thoughts. Not complete and total control but enough to have conversations with one another over the “phone” which could literally be any object, it's a coping mechanism. Araki really doesn't go by the books with these two but here is a small explanation of actual DiD:
Dissociative identity disorder (DID), previously known as multiple personality disorder (MPD), is a mental disorder characterized by at least two distinct and relatively enduring identities or dissociated personality states that alternately show in a person's behavior, accompanied by memory impairment for important information not explained by ordinary forgetfulness. These symptoms are not accounted for by substance abuse, seizures, other medical conditions, nor by imaginative play in children. Diagnosis is often difficult as there is considerable comorbidity with other mental disorders. Malingering should be considered if there is possible financial or forensic gain, as well as factitious disorder if help-seeking behavior is prominent.From Wikipida
Basically, the way we play it is that Diavolo surfaced as a protective measure when Doppio's physical and sexual abuse at his orphanage became too much. In his teens, when his mother was discovered dead, was the first time Diavolo actively took over (instead of simply "talking" to Doppio in his head,) and killed her. He was hauled off to a sanitarium run by the Catholic church due to the idea he was "possessed" (because mental illness didn't exist in the 70s amirite?) by the devil and made to repent for his behavior. Over and over again he was made to confess, given shocks, and made to perform genuflection until his legs could no longer hold him. Every moment they yelled diavolo, diavolo, diavolo! Il Diavolo arose when Doppio's mental capacity broke and in that same moment their stand, King Crimson, was drawn out of them. Using his new found power, his rage, and his strength Diavolo slaughtered every nurse, doctor, and orderlie who had abused them before burning their home city of Sardinia to the ground. Over time, Diavolo's appearance began to differ from Doppio's when he fronted and now, seventeen years later, has his own body voice thoughts and feelings. He protects Doppio from coming to harm, cares for him, but can never shake the deep set paranoia they both feel when eyes and hands are laid on them.
★ Trish (
speranze) is Doppio (and Diavolo's) only biological child which had been unknown to him until the death of her mother not long before the events of Vento Aureo. From his canon point Diavolo has already tried to kill her and has broken her trust but within Harvest she is none the wiser. Though Doppio doesn't know that Trish is his daughter (because she's the boss's daughter! hahaha!)but he does know that Diavolo wants to kill her. Their paranoia over ever being found out, seen, known to the world by any other name makes it impossible to leave her alive. Though realistically if he knew that she was his daughter, that he could meet her and talk with her and watch her grow up, Doppio would want to do all those things! He really is a gentle soul himself, without Diavolo, and thinking of his daughter being an orphan would be the last thing he ever wanted.| STAND: KING CRIMSON & EPITAPH |
★ Importantly, we won’t be having them use this stand unless we know the mun is okay with this. It breaks at least 2 rules just by attempting to make it work with the powers given. We’ll have to communicate and agree on what King Crimson is doing and seeing. So… no worries! You don’t have to deal with this thing if you don’t want to! :> ★
★ ERASING TIME: This stand can erase parts of time itself as if they’ve never happened, upon activating this ability time will continue as usual for 10 seconds but after those 10 seconds anything that happened was cut from existing. Others affected by the stands ability will have no memory of what they did within those 10 seconds. However, Diavolo can move around during these 10 seconds and do whatever he pleases with that time.
The 10 seconds doesn’t always have to be from within the future either, they could be after Diavolo was hit and he’d like to remove that event, thus taking the moment he was attacked and erasing it form existing (while moving out of the way this time.)
Basically this ability is completely bullshit and Araki had to think of a massive asspull to kill him but it was a really fun ride while it lasted.
This is a good example.
★ SUPER STRENGTH: King Crimson can give them an overwhelming amount of strength either by using the stand itself or by granting them extra roids for the time being, even Doppio gets use of its arms. The punches hit hard.
★ EPITAPH: Epitaph, the sub-stand of King Crimson, is Doppio’s stand but Diavolo can use it freely (its the little angry face that's also on King Crimson.) It can predict events by casting images for them to see (most notably that iconic image of Diavolo looking into his hair and seeing the future. Only JoJo.) They can see the area around them with either Doppio or Diavolo (whoever is the user at the time) being the main focus. The amount of time they can see into the future is 10 seconds.

★ TWO: Diavolo was “born” because of abuse they suffered during their childhood. Doppio doesn’t like being touched—this implies plenty of reasons for both of them to fear being known or seen in general.
★ THREE: His first time being in control of their body was when Diavolo killed their mother and stuffed her in the floorboards.
★ FOUR: There is sometime in-between Sardinia being burned to the ground and finding their mother. At the time, with no stand to protect them; “Vinegar Doppio” was committed to a mental corrections facility. From the abuse suffered in a nasty 60-70s mental health asylum King Crimson was brought to life. Then they burnt down Sardinia. (Elaborated on above.)
★ FIVE: With King Crimson in hand Diavolo makes the decision that he alone will protect Doppio and build their empire. He knew he was meant for greater purpose. With no real education he was forced to take everything he learned from dated learning material that was provided at the asylum for inspiration simply to protect Doppio and support them the only way he knew how.
★ SIX: Doppio did terribly in school due to dyslexia and his inability to focus. He was harshly beaten for being "lazy" with his studies and told he would never amount to anything but in reality Doppio was very good with numbers. He handles Passione's accounts, Diavolo's books, and keeps track of business affairs quite easily. Despite his attention problems, when he has a job to do that he excels in he is very good at his job.
★ SEVEN: Doppio is left handed naturally but he was conditioned to use his right hand during school. They actually used to do this, they'd tie the offending hand to the table and make the child write with their right hand instead, until they got it down. He throws, grabs and does everything else with his left hand though.
★ EIGHT: He has much of the same knowledge as Diavolo when it comes to their illegal behavior. He knows how to grow and make drugs, extort people for money, and even how to melt a body in acid. Of course, he forgets all of these things almost immediately after they happen because Bad Things make him disassociate like a motherfucker.
★ NINE: Speaking of his disassociation, Doppio is the definition of the cloudcukoolander trope. He spaces out, falls over himself, can't remember where he is, and forgets things within minutes. His disorder has fully taken him over and it's incredibly difficult to consciously get him out of this state. There are moments when he's entirely lucid however, and knows exactly what he's doing or saying. He's quite sassy, even to Diavolo!
